Central to the sound intervention and installation Peine fort et dure by the artist Keira J Fox, is her research into the English prophetess, political activist, and radical feminist Anna Trapnel. With a focus on her visionary quest and oppositional rallying against the dominant powers of 17th century England. Using text from accounts of her own pilgrimage, arrest and trial 'Report and Plea' Peine fort et dure attempts to embody the prophetic intimate 'other voice' of Trapnel and raise its relevance to current political and social injustices.

Keira J Fox is part of the performance duo New Noveta. Peine fort et dure was created in collaboration with Louis Backhouse (costume) and Vindicatrix (sound). With the vantage point of struggle and resistance towards everyday patterns of conformity, control and social oppression, her work fits into the magnificent hall with Willy von Beckerath's mural frieze 'The Eternal Wave', a sequence of eight paintings symbolically depicting the rise and fall of a cultural epoch. The theme here, is also the reformatory rise of new ideas and ideals of a young generation, particularly the paintings 'Enlightenment', 'Unfolding' and 'Fulfillment' take up the coming-of-age theme.
