Ribbons, bones, dogs, cats, mice, and hybrid creatures have been vividly hand-painted onto a messily silk-dyed dress. The drawings are reminiscent of casual scribbles found in diaries or school desks with the same looseness of hand. At the same time, it is clear that the dress has been decorated, meticulously filled, and covered to the edges.
The clothing work of London-based artist Claire Barrow is often created from the old, the discarded – the "waste of youth culture" in so, directly responding to a found reality and connecting with Barrow's fantasy world and her own past experience.
She studied fashion design at the University of Westminster and had her debut at London Fashion Week in 2012. In 2016 she left the fashion schedule to continue working on her strangely themed Xtreme Sports collections and expanding her wider art practice into canvas and sculpture.
